A Week in the Life of the WHT Maintenance Crew

It takes a lot of effort to keep the Westmoreland Heritage Trail beautiful and safe for everyone, and our dedicated maintenance crew has been hard at work as always! Here’s a peek at the varied tasks that go into keeping the trail in top shape.

First, some necessary equipment care. The tractor pickup from the repair shop was first on the list, ensuring our equipment is ready for next year. Speaking of equipment, we mounted a toolbox on the trailer to keep all those essential tools organized and easily accessible. We even played a little game of real-life Tetris by rearranging the garage to fit the trailer inside, protecting it from the elements.

With the seasons changing, the leaves never stop falling! Our crew spent some time on blowing leaves off the trail. This is a crucial, high-priority task, to keep our trail looking great.

Of course, Mother Nature always keeps us on our toes! We had to jump into action to take care of a tree that fell on the trail, clearing it from the trail to ensure an unobstructed path for our trail users.

Even though the trail is still bustling, our crew is already thinking ahead to colder weather. We RV, environmentally safe, antifreeze into our sprayers to protect the equipment and keep them ready for next season’s work.

Finally, no productive week is complete without planning! Attending the Westmoreland Heritage Trail’s monthly meeting to discuss upcoming projects, coordinate efforts, and ensure everyone is aligned on the goals for the WHT.
